Panpepato, a typical dessert of the tradition, is mainly composed of almonds, cocoa and spices, in particular black pepper (the ingredient from which the dessert takes its name).

In the Middle Ages this dessert was considered among the most valuable, given the presence of spices, at the time a very rare and expensive commodity imported from the East.

Panpepato is characterized by a contrast of flavors: a little sweet, a little spicy and is mainly consumed during the Christmas period.
